Lung Cancer Alliance is the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to providing patient support and advocacy for people living with or at risk for the disease. Our mission is clear: leading the movement to reverse decades of stigma and neglect by empowering patients, elevating awareness and changing health policy.

LCA Programs
PATIENT EMPOWERMENT

Lung Cancer Information Line (800-298-2436): A toll free information and referral service providing current and reliable information on lung cancer, symptoms, early detection, recent diagnoses, treatment options, clinical trials, second opinion information, smoking cessation, psychosocial support, financial assistance and transportation issues. The information line operates weekdays from 9am to 5pm.

www.lungcanceralliance.org: An award winning and comprehensive website with the most up to date and relevant information on every aspect of lung cancer, prevention, early detection, treatment, support, resources, latest news, advocacy issues and how to get involved in the movement.

Phone Buddy Program: A free program offering peer-to-peer mentoring support that matches survivors or caregivers to others who have similar experiences providing long distance calling cards for all participants. Each volunteer undergoes training sessions and has access to LCA resources and manuals.

Lung Cancer Clinical Trials Matching Service (800-698-0931): A toll-free pre-screening and referral service that quickly identifies clinical trial options that match each person’s specific diagnosis, stage and treatment history. The service also publishes and widely distributes an annual New Directions newsletter.

On-Line Survivors Community: A free on-line interactive support community that provides a forum for discussion and awareness on lung cancer issues. http://www.inspire.com/groups/lung-cancer-alliance-survivors

Lung Cancer Alliance Times: A quarterly newsletter distributed to patients, caregivers, families and the medical community providing commentary and information on a broad range of topics.

www.screenforlungcancer.org: A website dedicated to the importance of the early detection of lung cancer, tools for assessing a person’s risk for the disease, and a directory of leading institutions with the highest early detection standards.

Lung Cancer Education Forums & Toolkits - Together Facing Lung Cancer, Strike out Cancer, Frankly Speaking about Lung Cancer: Educational forums held around the country to provide patient information and social support. These forums collaborate with CancerCare, Wellness Community, Oncology Nursing Society, American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS), doctors, patients, hospitals and cancer centers.


NATIONAL AWARENESS

National Public Awareness Campaign: A celebrity spokesperson awareness campaign produced in digital, print, radio, and broadcast public service announcements to help elevate awareness and unify support for lung cancer.

No One Deserves Lung Cancer National Bus Tour: A multi-city national bus tour featuring the Faces of Lung Cancer (see below) to raise awareness and understanding because no one deserves lung cancer.

Faces of Lung Cancer: An expanding collage of pictures and stories featuring survivors and loved ones lost to lung cancer currently housed on our website - a visual affirmation of the true face of lung cancer so misunderstood by the public at large (http://www.lungcanceralliance.org/facing/facesoflungcancer).

Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM): An annual proclamation issued by legislative bodies to designate November as LCAM to help increase public awareness and support for the disease.

Annual State of Lung Cancer Report Card: An annual assessment of federal and state progress in the battle to eradicate the disease.

HEALTH POLICY

Educating federal & state policy leaders on the need for greater resources for lung cancer research including prevention, early detection, and treatment.

Working with hundreds of volunteer advocates in more than 20 states introducing ground-breaking legislation that establish pilot programs for research and early disease management.

Developing strategic partnerships with those committed to addressing lung cancer.
